City of Birmingham Water Polo
The City of Birmingham Water Polo section was reformed in 2003 and has since then had success at both youth and senior level with both male and female players.
In the first year of swimming the junior men's team reached the national final where they were narrowly beaten. Since that time the junior team has reached at least the semi-final stage of the completion on three further occasions.
In 2007 City of Birmingham also entered a senior team in the National Water Polo League and won the championship at the first attempt. The team won 11, drew 1 and lost 2 games in a memorable start. The championship team included: John Cooper, Tom Carpenter, Alex Boyle, Phil Lucas and skipper Marcus Hook. Gary Tonks, Toby Hook, Matt Foulds, Richard Baker, David Giess (Coach), Rob Cash, Ashley Hillier and Mike Foulds.
In 2008 the team narrowly managed to hang onto their division 3 status and continue in 2009 to make progress at this level.
The club is open to water polo players in the Birmingham area and interested male and female players should contact David Geiss on 0121 384 3961 (davidgiess@blueyonder.co.uk) if they are interested in training with the squad. Training takes place on Friday evening at Stechford Cascades.
